Thick Stitching

True Religion (NASDAQ: TRLG) has released a new line of jeans featuring a bold new stitching direction. I think this direction could salvage their lag in new innovation and distinguish their branding in the high-end denim market.

No... just no.

Can you be a little more specific on why you don't think this will be a strong trend? "No...just no." doesn't really help.

It could be a strong trend, but I hope not! Adding more stitches to Big T and calling it Super T stitching hardly qualifies as an innovation. I also think it looks tacky and too busy, especially for men's denim. True Religion should first improve the poor quality of their jeans, not to mention the fit. They are rarely flattering... I have yet to see a guy look good in his TRs.

I see True Religion as the new 7 for All Mankind. The masses will probably continue to buy them thinking they're still considered "high-end." (Not saying TR is cheap, just that denim prices are insane and $300 is now mid-range.) For the price, you might as well pay a little more and buy Dior Homme. Italian and Japanese denims are best.

Jeanna, you should email me. We are looking for contributors of content. I think your insight is valuable.

it's so funny that guys are still wearing bootcut true religions when designers had already moved past that whole thing into straight and skinny raw denim, and are already moving past that into lighter, slightly roomier but still quite slim denim. jeanna, i completely agree with you on the dior homme jeans thing. in fact, i think you got that from me. we might shop together a bit too often. either way, i could talk for a week or two straight about denim, but let's just leave it at that.
