Flagship brand Gap of The Gap Inc. (NYSE: GPS) sucks. I'm all for "buying when theres blood in the streets", but if there is no end to a company's failure in sight, it may be better to hold off. With seasons of uninspired collections, GAP is quickly turning into a K-Mart brand, with only its subsidiary, Banana Republic, doing considerably well. When consumers can turn to alternate companies for better fashion at a competitive price, such as Forever 21, H&M (STO:HMB), and Zara,there is no reason to purchase subpar clothing. Gap, here is a tip for the outfit pictured above named "Casual Charm":
1. Fire the model, she isn't good looking and no one knows who she is.
2. Fire/smack the designer who thought that washed out earth tones was a great idea for the fifth season in a row.
3. Fire the person who put together this outfit and named it. It should be called "no personality".

Actually, you might want to reconsider this one. Patrick Robinson has just been named executive VP of design at Gap. He'll be in charge of the women's and men's apparel, accessories, and intimates. I don't shop there, but I definitely think Patrick can turn Gap around! If you're not familiar with his work, check out Paco Rabanne and the current Target GO International line. He has also designed for Armani, Perry Ellis, and Anne Klein.
Patrick Robinson sounds like he might've been successful in the past, but can you really resurrect a brand like GAP? Try as they might, GAP has failed to capitalize on trends for years and has also dropped into the commodity-level dumpster in consumer's minds....
Their most recent attempt to bring back their old glory was to have celebs (Sarah Jessica Parker? Are you joking?) rock their clothing in ads. Sad as it may be, celebs wearing garbage doesn't make it any easier to sell garbage.
Your premonition of a GAP resuscitation is akin to Dr. Phil bringing back Marilyn Monroe from the dead with a portable defibrillator and a can of Red Bull.

Agreed! The Gap (Old Navy/BR/Athleta/Piperlime) will never be as good as it was. Designs are bland (read: BORING) and the message has become irrelevant. Everything they sell can be found on sale a week later. Whenever I walk into a Gap/BR (not to buy clothes but to do some research) all customers are flocking the sale racks only. They're turning into a cheap brand. Time for something to replace these ubiquitous lame stores that sell ugly clothing.
